I am passionate about haberdashery and have a vast collection. I had a few empty wooden cotton reels that I was saving for something, but didn't quite know what; although I had an idea that I wanted them to be repurposed still as a needlework item.
My original prototype had white felt spots that I had sewn on, but then I thought about adding buttons instead to give the pin cushion a more 'haberdasheryness' feel and look to it, and it makes it look so cute!

Full description
A cute handmade pin cushion in the shape of a toadstool. This particular toadstool has blue bead 'flowers' - see second photo (although some of the photos might show other coloured beads - photos just added to show how I have made each of the pin cushions).
Made from materials that I have had in my collection for many years - the green baize base is from a snooker table, the buttons (white spots) are all pre-loved, the leather for the door and windows are from scraps of samples and the other fabrics are from items of clothing and/or my vast hoard!
The 'cushion' part is filled with wadding and wire wool to help sharpen your pins and needles. Inside the 'stem' is an old wooden cotton reel, and I have added a small glass brick on top of the cotton reel to help weigh the item down. Everything is hand stitched.
Dimensions: Approximately 8cm tall x 8-9cm wide.
This listing is for the toadstool with the pale pink flowers (beads). The other toadstools in the photo are just to show variations that I have made. Pins, sewing thread and scissors are not included.
