These swivel back cufflinks feature a rounds of cornish surfite which is bezel set in sterling silver and they have been finished with sterling silver swivel backs for ease of use. The surfite has a rosette eye type pattern in pastel shades on a dark maroon and green back ground. Some of the colours are transparent and light can reflect off the setting behind them. The cufflinks measure approx 20mm diameter and the tops are 4mm thick, they have a smooth flat top so they don't snag when being worn under a jacket. Surfite is a light weight material so even big pieces aren't heavy in the cuffs.
Not come across surfite before? Its the name given to layered up waste epoxy resin that forms during the glassing stage of making surfboards (that's when they cover the foam core in resin). The rosette pattern is the cross section of a stalagmite that was forming from the last few drips of resin off the boards. This material came from Toy Factory Surf in Newquay, Cornwall and I cut and polished it myself (you can see the rough in one of the photos but its not included in the sale). There are a few dimples in the surface from air bubbles that got trapped in the material as it formed. I have plenty of rough (and rough from other sources) so if you love the idea of surfite but want something else drop me a message. Come gift boxed ready for giving to the surfer in your life.
