These hoop earrings have oblong drops of fordite hanging from sterling silver hoops. The fordite is a mismatched pair, one has a broad stripe of white (with a little silver and beige) the other has a wide stripe of dark grey and red (with a little beige and silver), they both have a white base with fine stripes of yellow, silver and grey. The fordite is bezel set in sterling silver and can be slipped off the hoops so you could wer the hoops during the day and then add the drops before going out in the evening. Fordite is lightweight so you could comfortably wear the hoops with the drops all day.
Measure approx 50mm by 11mm including the hoops (hoops are 20mm dia). Comes gift boxed.
So what is fordite? Its cured paint that built up in the spray booths at car plants layer by layer as each vehicle was painted. I believe this particular material came from Ford's Hazelwood plant in the early 2000's. (The colours are consistent with the range for transit vans during that period which would explain all the white). The painting methods that produce fordite have been phased out for much safer and efficient methods so much less fordite is produced now and it is becoming increasingly difficult to source so if you are a petrol head I'd get some whilst you can. I cut a lot of my fordite myself so if you like the idea of fordite but not this piece drop me a message and we can discuss me making you something special.
