Full description
This is my unique tipsy bowl with coral butterfly. This was a very happy make ... I am tempted to keep it for myself. The butterfly edge is raised and the bowl slopes gently towards the opposite edge.
The butterfly has been a symbol of transformation, hope and faith for thousands of years. The butterfly is also a symbol of rebirth, since it goes through so many life cycles -- from larva to caterpillar to chrysalis and finally to a beautiful, flying butterfly.
This handcrafted ceramic dish has been created from white earthenware clay using the slab-work method. A butterfly has been secured with slip before shaping with sculpting tools and placed in a mould. Once dried it has been bisque fired to 1000C and hand-painted with three coats of a unique shaded aqua glaze has been applied to the bowl and coral pink has been applied to the butterfly. After glazing it has had a second firing in the kiln to 1080C.
Approximate size: 17cm diameter .. Height at butterfly edge: 5.5cm Front edge: 3 cm
Due to the handmade nature and natural materials each piece is unique with subtle variations in size, shape, and finish.
Self-adhesive cork has been applied to the base to protect surfaces.
This bowl is food safe - perfect for bespoke chocolate treats.
