I love collecting things discarded, lost, forgotten, damaged or just not wanted any more. My favourite places are rivers and beaches, but also find great things at recycling centres and charity shops. I’m lucky to live near the River Tees, Co Durham and often walk the banks picking up broken glass, pottery anything that can be cleaned and re-created into something new. Bits and bobs of lives all waiting to find new homes. Found by chance.

Additional terms
Hand crafted Jewellery and framed artworks using pre loved and discarded ceramics. Ceramic material will show signs of wear and damage. Entire process is a creative experience from discovery to final picture, nothing planned or preconceived. All materials personally collected from river banks, charity shops, roadside, woods, recycle centres, beaches, wherever dropped, dumped or donated ceramics are found, cleaned and shaped into new stories. Each piece comes with a short bio of where the ceramic came from, date found and re-created. Some shards collected are used as found, others are cut randomly which shape the final work. Every piece is individual, nothing replicated, however, due to repetitive patterns in ceramics there will be some similarity but only through the ceramic material not in the final piece.

Re-Created Earrings

I love collecting anything broken, lost or found by chance. There’s a small patch of ground beside the River Tees which gets boggy and drenched during heavy rains. The downpours expose all sorts of broken pot, glass, bits of pipes and wonderful oyster shells.
I found a small piece of plate, brown pattern on white ceramic, part of the rim. After a clean I gently clipped the shard to create random shapes. Only two pieces survived, very similar in shape. Front glaze in tact, back fully sanded and sealed with eco friendly matt sealant.
The idea is to create something new from old. The finished piece isn’t meant to be perfect or highly polished but instead retain part of the original character. These earrings are very similar in shape but not exact. Found by chance on a bright, cold October day and created into earrings, full of history, unique.
Each earring measures approximately 20mm x 8mm (widest) x 2mm
Approximate full drop 40mm.
Hanging Sterling Silver 925 hooks and jump rings.
Delivered in small brown gift box, gift bag made with recycled materials and comes with short bio.
