Sanday is one of the North Isles of the Orkney archipelago, and has a very quiet "last century" feel to life. Beach walks reveal many things for crafting, especially the bruck - the local name for flotsam that washes up on the shore. Sea shells make such beautiful things, especially when shaped on my lathe, and seeing the cross-section forms of broken shells on the beach inspired me to recreate these forms in my craft items.
