I wanted to create a set of illustrations that showcased species of coastal bird found locally along the North Northumberland coast, including a Cormorant, Brent Geese, Arctic Terns, a Purple sandpiper, an Eider duck, an Oystercatcher and Puffins. For these mugs, I selected the Arctic Tern, Brent Geese, Puffins and Purple Sandpiper. Each illustration was hand-painted in watercolour with pen detailing and then labels were handwritten in a loose, calligraphic style. The hand-drawn map cartouche features two of the places these birds can be seen - the Farne Islands and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. Part of my Coastal Birds of North Northumberland collection - 25% of the profit from sales of items in this collection will be donated to the National Trust to support their work looking after the Northumberland coast.

Delicate fine bone china mug, printed in the UK and featuring illustrations in watercolour and pen of four species of coastal birds found in the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), including: Arctic Terns, Brent Geese, Puffins and Purple Sandpipers. Each detailed illustration has a hand-written name label and the mug also includes a hand-drawn title with representations of Lindisfarne and the Farne Islands - key nesting and breeding sites for these birds. A lovely gift for bird-lovers and nature enthusiasts.
