These oval drop earrings feature surfite bezel set in sterling silver and finished with handmade sterling silver hooks. The surfite is a well matched pair with a swirly pattern in many shades of blue and green with hints of pink and red, it reminds me of fish on a coral reef in a very abstract way. Some of the colours are translucent and the open back setting allows light to shine through the earrings. Would make a great gift for the surfer in your life or any one who loves the unusual. The earrings measure approx 45mm by 16mm, they are lightweight with lots of swingy movement and come gift boxed.
Surfite is cured epoxy resin waste that builds up as surfboards are being made, this was a very splattery build up with lots of drips which caused the pattern. The resin build up is normally considered a waste material but jewellers have started recycling it into colourful jewellery. I cut this material myself and this particular piece came from a workshop in Puerto Rico. This surfite has tiny air bubbles in it which show as dimples on the surface of the material, this is a reflection of the fact it is a waste material so they didn't bother bursting the bubbles as the material formed.
