"I have always been intrigued by parrots, they are legendary for their intelligence and when you see them demonstrating how clever they are it really is incredible. I also love their larger than life characters, they can be very sweet natured but also can rule a whole household!
In the wild parrots form wonderful colourful communities and screech and play and groom themselves and each other. Though I love parrots I also became very aware of how awfully they are being exploited and have been for so many years, along of course with so many other species of wildlife. This year alone, in 42 days and 16 countries alone, researchers found 33,006 live wild animals and parts for sale illegally.
Parrots chicks are often taken from their nests while really tiny to be sold as pets far away. This piece was also entitled ‘blood trade’ and aimed to show both the beautiful side and the desperately vulnerable side of these gorgeous baby parrot chicks."
