"Otters for me have always symbolised the beauty of our truly wild and pure countryside. There is a magic about seeing otters in nature that I think is almost unrivalled. I wanted to capture the incredible fluidity and joy that they show when swimming and I wanted the ring to help depict a world where these creatures can live and play in their habits unharmed by pollution and insensitive development.
The ‘Through Clear Water’ Otters Swimming Through Ring sculpture would still play on the symbolism of the ring as a world. This was important to me because I’d been really impressed by David Attenborough’s success in spreading the message about plastic polluting our rivers and oceans worldwide. The work that charities like Plastic Oceans and others are doing, will benefit us, and our planet, and I hope that this is one problem that we will be able to solve in my generation."
