I started making these raku leaf bowls as the vein patterns on the bottom of hollyhocks are so deep and well defined, they lend themselves to being pressed into the clay. After much experimenting there are other leaves that work really well too, sunflower leaved, alder leaves and some weeds have amazingly strong leaf patterns. Also finishing them as a raku pot adds an extra dimension to what is already and interesting form.
