These rectangular necklace pendants have been cut from a hand rolled slab of terracotta clay, partially dipped into ivory decorating slip before a hole is made for the cotton chord, dried out carefully to avoid warping, then placed into the kiln for a first kiln firing.
After firing the necklace pendant is ready to paint with various Earthenware glazes and oxides depicting and evoking the local landscape with lines and textures, before receiving a glaze firing, giving a smooth glossy feel to the surface and a matt terracotta on the reverse.
When complete these necklaces are finished with a cotton chord, hand knotted with special slip knots allowing the wearer to change the length of pendant to suit.
Coming with a sturdy, attractive present box made from recycled materials from the Tiny Box Company, this unique piece of jewelry measures 4.5 cm long and 3 cm across with a depth of 6 mm, when worn the chord length will hang at approx 38 cm.
