I love the purity and simplicity of whitework, and portraying a daisy in this technique seemed ideal. While it is to all intents and purposes whitework, as I used antique whitework linen for the petals and leaves, it has actually been worked in the stumpwork technique.

Full description
Stumpwork Daisy 'Wistful' - unique one-off piece of art work.
This delicate daisy is embroidered in the stumpwork technique, using tiny stitches over a wire outline. Each petal and leaf is embroidered onto antique linen decorated with whitework stitches - scraps are sourced to avoid destroying an intact piece of antique whitework. The wire for each petal is carefully moulded to shape by hand, before being applied to the linen, then stitched over to secure and cover the wire outlines. When all the petals and leaves have been stitched, they are then painstakingly cut out, taking care not to cut any of the stitches, before being applied to the background fabric and gently bent to shape. The background fabric is a natural hessian, chosen for it's coarse raw appearance to be in direct contrast to the delicate white flowers it displays. Padded French knots complete the centre of each flower.
Each piece is presented with a double white mount, signed and framed in a white wooden box frame. Glass is not included as I feel this detracts from the embroidery. A label on the back of the frame provides information about my career to date and the process behind the making of each piece.
Size of finished embroidery: 10cm x 10cm
Size of framed embroidery: 24cm x 24cm
