Burr Thuja is a slow growing tree that is native to northwestern Africa in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. When I purchased this veneer from Cripsins in Shoreditch in the 1980s, I was told it was the first they had in stock for 40 years. Ripple or ‘fiddleback’ (seen on the back of violins) sycamore - which is harder to find than straight grained sycamore - has a beautiful ’tiger’s eye’ effect with the play of light on the timber.
