Whilst many of my clock designs explore how the dial and time display can be integrated to the woodwork (rather than applied with printed dials), the source of this rectangular pendulum clock came from asking myself the question: do pendulum bobs have to be round and made from brass? The result of asking myself this question was a host of ideas in my sketchbooks and a series of clock designs with rectangular pendulum bobs made from wood.

This elegant Rectangular Pendulum Wall Clock in Ripple Sycamore and Ebony is designed to be enjoyed, like a painting, as part of your wall decor or to be given as a special gift to a loved one.
Made from solid ‘ripple’ sycamore timber with inlaid round ebony hour markers, the main case is pierced with two bevelled holes and two ‘swing slots’ through which an inlaid ripple sycamore and ebony rectangular pendulum ‘bob’ can be seen.
The clock can be easily located without taking up much wall space whilst still providing an attractive feature in your home. The quiet ticking of the clock and the gentle movement of the inlaid wooden pendulum ‘bob’ give a soothing presence in your room.
Ripple or ‘fiddleback’ (seen on the back of violins) sycamore is harder to find than ‘crown cut’ or straight grained sycamore and has a beautiful ’tiger’s eye’ effect with the play of light on the timber. The ebony used for the hour markers comes from 1980s stock which I still have in my workshop prior to any ebony export bans.
The overall size is 405mm x 100mm x 34mm (16” x 4” x 1 5/16”).
