Inspired by a place I’ve loved since childhood holidays there - Rocky Valley near Tintagel in North Cornwall.
Take a journey along there in your mind’s eye:
The Trevillett stream leads you through a cool, wooded valley, past the ruins of an old mill. Linger a while by two rock carvings - labyrinths that some believe date from the Bronze Age. Cross over a little wooden bridge and follow to where the stream deepens, scooping bubbling cauldrons from its black slate bed. Then scramble over rocks and come face to face with wind and crashing waves, and the open sea beyond.

Full description
Rocky Valley Shawl / Wrap
Hand woven in pure wool. A spinning and weaving journey that celebrates a special place – Rocky Valley in North Cornwall.
The colours describe the valley: earthy browns and rocky greys, through to Atlantic blue. A woven band (the Trevillett Stream) runs until it reaches the “sea”. A copper scroll at the hem holds tiny bronze and copper bells that tinkle quietly, like far away trickling water.
Spun on a traditional spinning wheel, then woven by hand on a rigid heddle loom, the yarn is a blend of fine merino, BFL, Shetland and Corriedale fibres, all chosen for their natural textures and softness.
Measuring 156cm width x 248cm length (or 268cm including the fringes), this wrap has a warm, chunky feel and beautiful drape. It can double up as a throw or lap blanket too.
A lino cut hand-printed wooden brooch and pendant accompany the shawl, representing the two Bronze Age labyrinth rock carvings found in the valley.
