Gop Cairn, or `The Gop`, is an ancient man-made mound, on a hill overlooking the village of Trelawnyd in North Wales. It is the largest man-made mound in the UK, next to Silbury Hill in Wiltshire.
I used to live in Wiltshire & frequently visited Silbury Hill & the stone circles at Avebury, for inspiration for my art work. Having moved to North Wales, I was fascinated to discover that I had my very own `mound` virtually on my doorstep! Therefore I wasted no time in visiting the site & exploring the surrounding area, although its quite a hill to struggle up!
The views alone are reward enough & the site is fascinating, being situated above limestone caves in which objects have been found, dating back to Neolithic times & beyond.
