Amethyst (purple quartz) is the birthstone for Aquarius and February, and the stone for the 6th and 17th wedding anniversaries.
Amethyst is also associated with St Valentine.
It was believed he wore an amethyst ring engraved with a cupid to enable young soldiers to recognise him.
Emperor Claudius 11, believing married men made bad soldiers, had forbidden soldiers to wed, but Valentine would conduct secret marriage ceremonies.
The Emperor had him beheaded circa A.D. 270.
Rose quartz is referred to as the "love stone" as it is thought to enhance and balance emotions, making this combination of sage amethyst and rose quartz an extremely romantic present.
