Full description

45 hours. That’s how much kiln time has been required to create this wonderful summer wildflower scene across three separate firings! The first fire was to make the flowers using powdered glass and the insanely fun freeze and fuse method. The powdered glass is frozen into form in the freezer before going straight into the kiln and being fired to 740 degrees Celsius. The next process saw me burn my fingers by shaping thin glass stringers in a candle frame. I then cut a clear glass a base, and sprinkled glass powder and frit as the base. Even the powder and frit was created by hand, grinding down glass left over from a glass puddle project to reduce wastage. Once the flowers and blades of grass were arranged, the second firing to 740 degrees fixed all the glass in place. Once cooled, it went back to the kiln to be slumped into an arch. Some detailing was hand painted after this final firing, and this time placed in a domestic oven at 180 degrees Celsius for an hour to fix the paint.

The arch measures 17cm across by 10cm high.

Postage is included within the UK. Should you wish for it to be sent via tracked mail, please contact me to arrange additional postage costs.
