This statement necklace features a semi circle of colourful surfite which is bezel set in sterling silver and then suspended within a sterling silver chain. The surfite has horizontal stripes in shades of blue, green red and an unusual purple band. The chain the surfite hangs within is a fine trace chain but I've doubled it up to support the weight of the pendant, I like the way the strands move over each other and catch the light. The chain is 18 in (plus 2 in extender) with the surfite making up part of that length, the surfite measures 37mm by 24mm drop. The necklace comes in a sleek black box.
Not come across surfite before? Its the name given to layered up waste of epoxy resin that forms during the glassing stage of making surfboards (that's when they cover the foam core in resin), normally this waste material get thrown out but people have started realising that it has a beauty all of its own and recycling it into things like jewellery. This material came from a workshop in California, I normally cut my own surfite but when one of my lapidrist friends turned up some with purple bands I indulged and bought from him. Love the idea of surfite but not this piece - drop me a message I have a stash of rough so might be able to help out.
18 in plus 2 in extender, drop approx 24mm.
