Full description
Featuring new handmade glass beads from Ghana, this necklace has red, brown and ivory coloured tube beads and some round bright red beads to even out the shape.
These Ghanain tube beads are made by simple traditional methods and recycled glass. Stems from the cassava plant, or sometimes from banana leaves, are inserted to make the hole and then burn off during the firing. This gives the beads their distinctive wonky look, as it is almost impossible to end up with a hole that goes straight down the centre of each bead.
The vibrant patterns are painted onto the beads with a slip made of powdered coloured glass before a second firing to set them.
The brass clasp is also handmade in Ghana.
This colourful necklace is a one-off so you can be sure you won't see another just like it.
Please see my other listings as I use African beads a lot in my jewellery.
