I just to make jewellery from anything quirky or unusual! Apart from my love of vintage keys, these MDF lock plates or Escutcheon shapes looked really cool, so I experimented with turning them into jewellery!

This unusual pendant has a bit of a steampunk feel to it, but fans of Ironmongery or furniture restoration, will probably recognise this as a lock plate or Escutcheon!
Created from an MDF shape of a decorative lock plate, I have hand painted the entire shape in copper metallic artists quality acrylic paint. The shape itself has inverted hourglass shape, wider at the top and narrower at the bottom, with decorative scrolls or circles on each corner, followed by a key hole shape in the centre.
I have then experimented with adding layers of two different colours – copper and magenta – the result is this amazing marbled, almost crazed appearance!
I’ve then sealed the sides and revers with acrylic varnish and added a rose gold plated jump ring and matching 18 inch flat oval trace chain, the links of the chain measure 4.5 x 3 mm and there’s a 12mm lobster clasp at one end.
The chain is nickel and lead free. You can choose to order a different length of chain in the variation options (20, 22 or 24 inches).
The pendant measures just over 4cm (4.3cm to be precise), 3cm at the top and approximately 2.5 at the bottom, with a thickness of 6mm.
This lovely unique pendant will come to you safe and carefully packaged in a UK Made eco-friendly recycled kraft card jewellery box (hand-folded by me!) - perfect for gifting to that Victoriana friend or Steampunk fan (or as a treat for yourself!)
