About Bowerbird Jewellery

Bowerbird Jewellery

Creative, unique and sometimes quirky jewellery and accessories in mixed media!

G'Day! I'm Amanda and I create quirky beaded and mixed media jewellery from my home studio in (usually) Sunny Cornwall!

I started making jewellery at the tender age of 4 - it was a strung wooden bead necklace on string - but at least it's a start! When I was a teenager, my Mum gave me a loom beading kit and a book on beaded friendship bracelets. My first necklace was a daisy chain choker, which I still have in my jewellery collection! I've made mostly beaded jewellery as a hobby since then and when we moved over to the UK from Australia I decided I wanted to pursue a jewellery career and study jewellery design.

When we moved down to Cornwall a few years ago, I decided to take the plunge and officially start my own jewellery business and named it after an Australasian bird called the Bower bird which, like the UK's Magpie collects shiny objects! Pretty apt for an Aussie jewellery designer I thought!

I am auto-didactic (mostly self-taught) but have studied a City & Guild's creative techniques in Jewellery and silver-smithing Level 2 at Truro College where I received a Distinction, amongst other workshops and courses.

I create jewellery from whatever I have in my crafty stash and like to try many different types of art and crafts which sometimes crosses into my jewellery making too! The weather, the seasons, seashore, recycling found objects picked up from the beach, history, castles and ancient monuments, William Morris designs - in fact anything can be found in my jewellery range!

I make one of a kind jewellery, sometimes if I like making an item, I may make a couple of different colours - but usually they are mini works of art and completely unique!
