Walking along a Devon canal in August, the air was alive with dragonflies, damselflies and demoiselles.
The dragonfly has inhabited earth for around 300 million years, and not surprisingly, there are many legends associated with them.
In Japan the Samurai use it as a symbol of power, agility and victory.
In Chinese symbolism the dragonfly is a symbol of purity.
