Love this

A small, abstract textile from my new series Journey Mapping, these pieces explore the experience of being in a place, through colour, texture and form. This one came from drawing the incredible rock structures along the shore of the southern end of the Isle of Arran. I use fragments of hand dyed fabrics to build a surface and then add detail with machine and hand stitch - each piece is unique.
This piece measures 10 x 10 cm and is framed in a white, deep glazed frame measuring 20 x 20 cm

Journey Mapping is the collective title of my latest stitched textile pieces. My aim is to capture in stitch the experience of being in a place. So the image is less literal and more evocative. Scramble over the rocks and try to interpret the marks etched in the surface by waves and stones over the years. Notice the colours and textures - it is astounding how bright, bold and strong colours in nature can be.
