Full description
For sale is a beautiful, ornate hand crafted Richard the Lion Heart busts Chess Set that is rendered in Antique Bronze, Silver and Gold Metallic Effect paintwork with the addition of Bottle green and deep red rings.
The Chess pieces are incredibly sculptural and carry themselves very well possessing a definite presence. The photographs really don't do this chess set justice. The chess pieces are so detailed that they are a joy to make.
The tallest chess piece (The King) is aprox 16 cms tall and the pawns are aprox 9cms tall. The base of the king is aprox 4.5 cms. These pieces are also quite heavy due to the size.
Completing the paintwork on this set is very time consuming and labour intensive and represents many hours of dedicated work, which I'm sure you will agree is well worth the effort when you look at the photographs.
Whilst the stone casting material that I use is very robust, and is further enhanced with an acrylic polymer to strengthen it, care should always be taken when handling chess pieces due to the nature of their shapes. The chess set is a collection of castings and if handled with care will last a lifetime and beyond, however as with all earthenware they are not impervious to wear and tear and can break or chip if bumped or dropped onto a tiled floor for example. As a general and by no means comprehensive guide, these pieces should be handled in the same way that one would handle all earthenware or pottery.
