Full description
This listing is for a beautiful collection of antique effect Oriental themed Chess pieces in soft Aged Silver & Antique White aged effect (Chess pieces only). This chess set has all the presence of an old chess set with its antique chess paintwork. This is a wonderful example that sets Oriental themed old style chess sets into a league of their own.
The intricate design of these lavish chess pieces is typical of the artistry of Asia and are both beautiful to look at and a joy to play with.
The Chess set has a real presence as the pieces are quite tall with the king being almost 11.5cms with just under a 3.5cm base and the pawns being just over 7cms tall with a 2.5cm base (All measurements are approximate)
The chess pieces are cold cast using reconstructed stone with an acrylic polymer.
Each chess piece is handmade and hand painted here in Ireland.
This is a very impressive and distinguished set of chessmen and is a set that we are proud to offer here at MourneStudios.
Whilst the stone casting material that I use is very robust, and is further enhanced with an acrylic polymer to strengthen it, care should always be taken when handling chess pieces due to the nature of their shapes. The chess set is a collection of castings and if handled with care will last a lifetime and beyond, however as with all earthenware they are not impervious to wear and tear and can break or chip if bumped or dropped onto a tiled floor for example.
