After years of not really wearing or making earrings because they were covered by my shoulder length hair, lack of haircuts due to lockdowns and other restrictions means I now have long hair which is invariably scraped back into a scrunchie. Staring at my own head and shoulders on endless video call meetings and chats means I've become obsessed with the extravagant, colourful and characterful earrings I can now wear, and these and my other earrings in the collection are the result.
These earrings were inspired by some beautiful self-striped fabric which I've had forever and always loved. The contrast of the black and white fine stripes against larger, bolder bands of colour is really lovely, and in recreating it in beads I've been able to play with using contrasting finishes as well as colours - so you'll see I've sometimes used a matt opaque bead, or a metallic, or a silver lined or even a transparent bead to change the way the light plays on or through the beaded fringe.
