In the garden of our previous house we had two little apple-trees. They bore lots of apples – too many for us to eat, and the extras would fall to the ground. One night we were woken up by the most extraordinary noise; two hedgehogs had gorged themselves on the fermenting fruit, and become drunk. Like two worse-for-wear drinkers falling out of a pub late at night, they’d then picked a fight, and were snarling and hissing at each other at the most phenomenal volume!

Two hedgehogs snuffle through the undergrowth; maybe there are some tasty worms hiding under the mushrooms?
I’ve made this piece in natural tones of green, brown, dusky blue and tan, with batik fabrics providing visual interest in the larger pieces. Another batik creates the border, and the leaf-shaped cornerpieces pick up the forest theme.
The panel is created in stained glass patchwork, with each patch of fabric set off by an outline of bias binding in navy blue; the whole piece is backed and bound in dark navy blue. Little brown star-shaped buttons create the hedgehogs’ eyes.
A hidden casing at the top back of the quilt will hold your own batten/hanging pole.
The quilt will be sent to you cushioned with reusable bubble-wrap, and packed into a large reusable jiffy bag. Hanging pole and fixings are not included.
