Flowers and leaves provide endless inspiration for artists, and I’ve always loved the look of pretty garlands or circlets of blossoms. Recently I’ve been creating quite a few designs that combine the two ideas, using this technique of fusing and machine-quilting; sometimes I fussy-cut the motifs from print fabrics, and sometimes I cut my own shapes from plain and print fabrics. A bright and cheery garland of flower and leaf motifs on a multicoloured batik background.
I’ve used a technique called fussy-cutting, or broderie persé, to create this pretty circlet; the technique involves cutting motifs out of a printed fabric, then reassembling them into a new design.
The motifs were cut from two different batik fabrics, so they have a random variety of tones and colours in shades of turquoise, peachy pink, and assorted greens. I bonded the shapes onto the background in a circle, and added a border in another leafy batik. I then quilted by machine across the whole design using variegated thread in toning colours.
The quilt is backed in pale yellowy-green; the edge is bound in plain turquoise, caught down prettily with a wavy machine stitch.
A hidden casing at the top back will hold your own batten/hanging pole.
The quilt will be sent to you cushioned with reusable bubble-wrap, and packed into a large recyclable jiffy bag. Hanging pole and fixings are not included.
