Brass on mahogany is a classic look, evocative of our seafaring history; throw in some well worn leather and I think you have a beautiful combination. Add to that the knowledge that these tape measures have had a long life measuring out the long jumps and javelin throws of British youth, and you have a beautiful and evocative addition to your home. Of course the actual tapes don't go to waste, as can be seen from my door screens. The actual winding mechanisms could be cleaned and buffed up with Brasso if you wished, but I prefer them to show their history.
