The inspiration for these incense burners has come from the ponds and stretches of canals that run through my local area.
The edges are built up with layers of scratches, brush strokes and liquid wax to reflect the organic edges of the earthy banks which give life to wild flowers, grasses, insects and wildlife.
Broken pieces of bottle green glass are then carefully laid into the base of the bowl, giving a smooth, still water like appearance when melted, with a pleasing crackle like texture in places. Giving the bird the appearance of floating on the surface.
The canal and pond water can often appear dark green as a combination of the silt and reflection of the evergreen trees that grow along the edges.
Although made to hold incense sticks, this little bowl could be used as a ring dish or to hold jewelry.
