Pottery teapot 9871 stoneware h106x105mm 805g

Description

A stoneware teapot with variations of colour deriving from the melting of the glaze into the wheel-thrown texture marks. There are traces of cream/pale blue where the glaze is thicker. The small patches of orange/brown derive from brush-applied iron oxide decoration. This teapot was thrown with a UK stoneware and assembled while still soft. After biscuit firing and glazing it was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable.
- This teapot is food, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe and measures approximately 11cm tall and 11cm wide.
- The bottom is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9871.

Inspiration

I really enjoy the whole process of throwing and assembling teapots. This one has a homely feel and the colours are reminiscent of a kettle you might find in an impressionist painting. The deepest surface texture marks are highlighted by the darker glaze colour. This teapot would make a personal decorative statement on a shelf or in a display cabinet and invites inquisitive handling. Equally it could be directly functional for brewing your favourite tea blend.
