My background is in Graphic Design and although I'm now retired I still enjoy the creative process. A lot of my work features birds and flowers and I particularly love combining different materials and patterns to create colourful, one-of-a-kind mixed media pieces.

I've made a few smaller "Thimbelina" boxes, but this one has the advantage of some double sized compartments and also a beautiful carved top.
The bigger compartments meant I was able to include some of my favourite treasures. The colour palette was inspired by the colours in the postage stamp showing a painting of a hawk by the Japanese artist Hiroshige.

Full description
This small mixed media artwork would make a lovely unique gift or add a pop of colour and interest to your own home.
The artwork is displayed in a pretty thimble rack which has been given a coat of black acrylic paint. Layers of paint and paper collage have been used to create colourful backgrounds to each section.
The 'treasures' include a Greek Mykonos verdigris goddess and hare, head of Buddha, filigree hand of hamsa, jewelry findings, a postage stamp, vintage button and a small section from a playing card showing a Korean folk painting.
I've also used beads including drawbench, Czech fire-polished and pressed glass flower, a carved bone bead in the shape of a fish and a gold foiled heart.
Overall size is approx. 14cm wide x 22cm high and 2.5cm deep.
The rack is free-standing and has holes so it could be screwed to a wall.
Artwork will be shipped via Hermes.
