Inspired by the sunflowers that self germinate in our garden and by a ferocious competition with a young lad in my class at the school where I teach to grow the tallest sunflower. He won by 20 cm but I think just concentrating on sunflowers so much gave the inspiration to make this piece.
Winners all round.

Full description
A striking window decoration, inspired by the sunflowers that spring up from the fallen birdseed in our garden. The piece is made in two stages, the centre of the flower is made up of small brass discs which bubble when fused, the blue sky is made from copper particles ground up with glass which reduces when sandwiched in the glass to give the bubbly blue sky and the ground is made up of small glass pieces. When these have been sandwiched between two pieces of glass the sunflowr stem, leaves and petals are put on top and the whole thing is refused to give the final 3D effect. Drilled with a diamond bit to give a clean hole and with ribbon attached the final piece is a reminder of summer days just gone and summer that will be back soon. 19cm x 9 cm without ribbon.
