This listing is for a beautiful LOTR chess set (pieces only) originally designed well before Peter Jackson got his hands on the LOTR trilogy.
This chess set is a reproduction of on an old chess set inspired by the two beautifully animated movies of the 70's and 80's. It represents a golden age in LOTR based art and culture and is absolutely a must for LOTR fans of all ages. I love the new movies but this chess harks back to a time when drawings and artists impressions were what we had. It is a thing of great beauty and I really love this set!!
This old chess set has been long out of commission and it is with great pleasure that in some small way we get to bring back this beautiful old school Lord of the Rings chess collection and experience a part of that pre CGI nostalgia yet again.
The LOTR Chess pieces are incredibly sculptural and carry themselves very well possessing a definite presence. The photographs really don't do this chess set justice. The chess pieces are so detailed and are a joy to make.
The LOTR figures are rendered in vintage metallic gold and silver antique effect and come complete with felt bottoms.
The tallest chess piece (The King) is aprox 7.5 cms and the pawns are aprox 5.5 cms/ The base of the king is aprox 3 cms.
The LOTR chess pieces are cold cast and if handled with care will last a lifetime but will break if dropped onto a tiled floor (for example) as most things will.
