Full description
This bird is hand made and measures, approx 5.5cm high and 6.8cm long. It is made from white earthenware clay and when leather hard I used a metal tool and carved out small dents in the surface. I then smoothed out any sharp bits then dried and fired it in an electric kiln. After firing several coats of glaze are painted on and with a sponge it is wiped back, off the surface leaving the glaze in carved dents. It is then raku fired in a gas kiln and then smoked in a bucket of sawdust the unglazed parts turn black. After washing and drying the unglazed parts are polished with bees wax.
