I have decorated this brooch with a scrolled technique. Enamels are particularly adapted to this technique.
After building up a solid base of several layers of either white or clear enamel I add a single layer of coloured enamel. After firing that I add other colours randomly, either by scattering small heaps of enamel powder on the base or by setting sections of enamel rod on it. When the piece reaches red heat in the kiln I draw through the surface with a steel point to disturb the colours and draw them into a pattern. This is not a controlled activity in the sense that the colours move in ways i can predict and arrange; I get what the material allows.
Each pattern is unique.

This bird measures 28mm, beak to tail, 24mm wingtip to wingtip. It is mounted on a 20mm brooch bar, soldered to the copper base.
I have laid brown enamel over a base layer of clear enamel built up on the copper base. The copper base shows through the brown in tones of golden brown. I have then added a scatter of green enamel through which I have drawn a steel tip while the shape was red hot, to create the swirled pattern on the bird.
Your brooch will be sent boxed, by Royal Mail first class large letter, signed for.
