Shop Announcement:

Welcome to my shop.

Coronavirus - In order to continue in business through the pandemic I have reduced my stock to items that I may send from a postbox to be delivered through the letterbox, using postage paid for online. I can put your purchase in the post within 24 hours of receiving your order. Your order will be securely wrapped and sent by ordinary first class post. Please bear in mind that there are postal delays throughout the country.

All my work is glass enamel on a copper base. I buy the copper shapes and then build up and fire the multiple layers of enamel that decorate them. There is always a layer of enamel on the reverse. This balances the tension to which the decorated surface may be subjected as layers are added to it. It also means that generally there is bare copper copper only on the edges of the shape or where it has been scraped away allow me to solder a brooch bar.

I am happy to consider special requests and commissions. Contact me through folksy

This seahorse measures 42mm long by 15mm at its widest. I have mounted it on a 45cm, silver pate, curb chain that fastens with a simple bolt ring.

It is decorated with pale purple and white enamel, scrolled through a layer of dark blue. The dak blue is layered over a base of several layers of clear enamel built up on the copper shape. Under some lights the copper shape shows, dark golden brown, through the dark blue.

I have decorated this pendant with a scrolled technique. Enamels are particularly adapted to this technique.
After building up a solid base of several layers of either white or clear enamel I add a single layer of coloured enamel. After firing that I add other colours randomly, either by scattering small heaps of enamel powder on the base or by setting sections of enamel rod on it. When the piece reaches red heat in the kiln I draw through the surface with a steel point to disturb the colours and draw them into a pattern. This is not a controlled activity in the sense that the colours move in ways i can predict and arrange; I get what the material allows.
Each pattern is unique.
