Full description
If we are really lucky we have a thrush in the garden. Their song is amazingly loud and varied. It always makes me grin as I feel they are shouting their heads off from the top most branches!
Designed and handmade at my home studio in Cheshire, England.
I start each design by drawing from nature before cutting the glass.
My birds are made from 2 layers of thin glass. To this I add ground coloured glass and wire. There is a lot of hand painting with ground glass, on the top layer of the thrush, to give definition to the shape and to show off his wonderful patterned chest. The surface is over-glazed and fired in a kiln.
The roughly thrush sized naturalistic bird stands on a piece of tree trunk cut and saved from our garden. I dry the wood for over a year before it's ready to cut and sand before mounting a bird into. The wood may be different to the one in the picture will be of a similar size and cut.
The bird and his log measure 14 cm tall, 7 cm across and the log is 5 cm deep.
He would make a great gift for any bird lover.
