I have created a collection inspired by my curious cats and If like me you love your feline friends then you've come to the right place, my intention is to create quirky and quaint unique gift ideas for animal lovers to treasure. This piece is part of a family of four fabric pictures.
This piece focuses on a simplified illustration of a cat face which is created by drawing with stitches on my sewing machine-a term known as free motion sewing. I recycle fabric and enjoy bringing life into unwanted textiles. I love to combine patterns and textures alongside bold colours and contrasting colours too.
Cats have incredible features and I enjoy the freedom that a sewing machine can add to a piece, stitches appear like sketches, and each time is different depending on how fast you stitch or when you move the fabric. I've added a monochrome applique flower to these designs, choosing not to add colour but to focus on the line art design of the piece. Cats and flowers how curious!
To finish my illustration I mix fabric paint tones to complete the eyes which creates a softer, kinder look for the cat. Finally I create a textile picture with recycled fabric mounts and backing, and a beaded hanging loop to finish. A unique statement piece for any cat lover.
