This classic teardrop shaped pendant is given a modern twist with an unusual choice of materials, it features a colourful piece of Californian surfite which has been bezel set in sterling silver. The surfite has a mixture of clear and opaque bands in white, pink, dark red, blue and green, the open backed setting means you can peer through it and see the little air bubbles trapped inside it where the layers meet. There are a few dimples on the surface caused by the air bubbles. This is quite a sizable pendant measuring 50mm (inc bail) by 24mm, it comes with a silver chain but you could easily pop it onto a rubber cord or ribbon if you wanted to. Comes in a gift box and would make a great gift for the Californian or surfer in your life.
Surfite is layers of waste epoxy resin that builds up as surfboards are being made so this pendant is a great bit of recycling. During the glassing step the board is coated in resin and the excess is drained off into a bucket and this becomes surfite. Careful cutting and polishing allows the many different coloured layers to be shown off. Love the idea of surfite but want something else? Drop me a message, I cut and polish this material myself and have some of the rough left (you can see it in some of the photos but its not included in the sale).
