I am happy to wrap and send gifts direct to recipients with a note - just specify their delivery address when you check out (I use either special delivery or track 24 so you can follow it round the country to the recipient). Full description
These statement drop earrings feature retro hued drops of Californian surfite bezel set in sterling silver. The teardrops of surfite are mounted point down with an oval of textured silver between the surfite and the safety hook (also known as kidney wires). The surfite is a well matched pair with vertical stripes in cream, green (what I think of as Kermit green), red, blue and clear. The open backed settings allow light to pass through the surfite so when it is front lit the green and cream are most prominent but when back lit the red shows up more as it is translucent. The sterling silver safety hooks make sure these swingy earrings stay securely in your ears. The earrings measure approx 55mm top of hook to bottom and 17mm across (bit over 2 inches by 5/8th inch). Comes gift boxed.
So what's surfite? It is many upon layer of cured resin that builds up during the 'glassing' step of custom surfboard manufacture (glassing is when the foam inner is covered in more durable resin). This build up is normally considered a waste material and thrown away but jewellers have started using it as a colourful and sustainable alternative to natural gems so these earrings would make a great gift for the surfer in your life or for someone keen on eco alternatives.
I cut and polish the surfite myself and this particular batch of surfite came from a workshop in California (I don't know which one though) an you can see a rough slabette in one of the photos (not included).
