Lovely spear shaped orthoceras Fossil specimen, where the orthoceras is off centre, rounded and highly polished on the front surface & unpolished and uneven on the back, with rounded edges. It has been drilled centrally at the wider point of the teardrop & teamed up with a large silvertone rounded triangle bail, oval link key chain and 2.5cms diameter split ring.
Orthoceras are the fossilized remains of an extinct marine animal of Cephalopod family. They are ancestors to the modern day squid and octopus and are dated to the Devonian Period about 400 million years ago.
A very 3D fossil keyring or handbag charm, domed and polished beautifully to the front, smoothed and flattened uneven to the back, but left unpolished and rustic.
The dimensions of this wonderful and highly polished fossil alone, excluding the keyring findings, is that it measures approx 47mms by 27mms at its widest point, with a depth of approx 10mms at its thickest point in the centre.
The colours range from silvery grey, through to deep charcoal grey to black.
This wonderful fossil specimen which has been beautifully polished, to make a fantastic Keyring, Fossil’s themselves are the inspiration and they capture the imagination of old and young alike, bringing prehistory to the present!
This is a polished fossil item & therefore not breakable, so not for robust use!
A friend has just said the fossil looks like a Dalek, so maybe something for the Dr Who fans!
