Hello and welcome! This page is home to Beaded Beasties: mixed media box frames of dragonflies and other creatures in a mini environment. Each one unique, made from new and recycled materials. I hope you love what you see.
Do please also take a look at my other page: DArTworld - Digital Imaginings for greetings and occasion cards and prints.
Having a selection of beads in autumn colours I made several dragonflies and then determined to use them in one large frame. The squadron was born!

Full description
Bring an evocation of nature and the fascinating world of dragonflies (one of our most ancient insects) into your home with this large-scale mixed media art frame.
At 52.5cm (20.5 ins) square, this is the largest frame I have created and there are no less than five beaded dragonflies in this Sunset Squadron basking in the russet glow of an evening in late summer.
The vast majority of the acrylic, glass and fire-polished crystal beads are recycled from jewellery pieces, all in shades of amber, gold, dark topaz and black, giving each dragonfly a distinct identity. They have acetate film wings printed with a vein pattern in ochre and red shades.
For their surroundings I have used dried seedheads, dyed moss, rafia, skeleton leaves, a printed paper leaf and a copper-coloured metal leaf plus some from an artificial plant: artificial berries, some ribbon and recycled card reeds. Wired wooden beads and a few natural pebbles complete the undergrowth.
The sky is suggested by layers of cloud in gold gauze and the gentle gleam of a fading sun from a recycled pearlised pendant. The background at the centre is covered with a golden marblised paper, all adding to the warm glow of a late summer evening.
Dimensions: The black box frame is 52.5cm (20.5 ins) square and 4.5cm deep. The frame is glazed with a sheet of perspex rather than glass which reduces the weight and helps with safety for mailing. There is a hanging hook on the back.
UK postage is included in the price.
