Along with my partner, I was self-employed for thirty years, first as a guest house owner in Fife and Argyll and then a gift retailer in Melrose in the beautiful Scottish Borders, but after closing the shop in 2017 I decided to use my time to explore my creative side.
I love photography and so my first foray was in reinventing my photographs as vibrant digital images. You can find some of them as cards and prints in my first Folksy shop: DArTworld - digitalimaginings.
More recently, I have been intrigued by the idea of creating small artworks of beaded insects and other creatures with their own mini environment. For these I use a mix of new and recycled materials including old jewellery, raffia, pebbles, glass nuggets, leather and cotton cord and recycled greetings cards!
Dragonflies are one of our oldest and most fascinating insects with their unusual shape and vivid colouring so I love finding a selection of beads to create each one. Although I base my makes on real creatures, they are not intended to be anatomically or zoologically correct, simply colourful interpretations.

Exquisitely detailed pictures crafted with expert attention to detail- the colours are truly mesmerising and so well put together- a refreshing change from the bland beiges and greys seen everywhere today. And I enjoy reading the stories behind each of the 'beasties', it's like a whole new little universe! Seller is superb- great communication, friendly and takes pride in packing his work securely. And the pictures are made with upcycled materials so even better- unique and good for the environment- no mass produced prints here!
