I wanted to design a set of contemporary mugs and bowls that would look beautiful and interesting on the table at every mealtime. One that told the origin of how and where they were made.
The clay these mugs were made from was dug up from our own island. The spiral handle shows the energy of our lives and the ancient physics of the potters wheel. The glazes reflect the colours that we see in our surrounding lowland pastures and mountains, the rivers, lakes and seas as the seasons change.
This particular mug brings back memories of views over mountains covered in fresh green with heavy clouds laden with rain.

Landscape Mug - Mountain Green and Rain Clouds
A great mug that can be used for every meal of the day.
I threw this mug on the potters wheel using a strong white stoneware clay. I then added the spiral handle. It was then fired to a bisque before being glazed in three contrasting and complimentary glazes and refired to 1220C.
The colours in this mug include on the inside blues and mauves, the rim an olive green, and the outside a lovely green.

Width across rim 8.5 cm
My mugs may be all different but they look gorgeous as a family.
I sign my pieces with the initials REJM. My parents gave me a long name and then called me by my last!
