These ceramic penguins are made from a nurtured hollow egg-shape of clay, gently and playfully emerging into a little creature who appears watchfully as if they could be guarding sleepful chicks.

I make ceramics as a calming technique to quieten my Anxiety.
I find moulding something out of clay so grounding, especially as I handbuild, having a contact entirely with the palm of my hand and the ball of clay feels nurturing.

I have been inspired to make ceramic penguins since 2012 when my husband was working in Antarctica on and off. He brought back the most amazing photos of penguins and was so descriptive of their funny nature I decided to make him one as my wedding gift to him.

Our lives since then have been filled with plenty more penguins who seem to have colonized our home.
