My daughter brought me back an amazing handcarved wooden stamp from her travels to Nepal. I love making mugs and this stamp just wanted to be part of the design on a mug. I therefore designed this mug and chose it's colours around the stamp.
++The mug in the photo is the mug that you would recieve.++

A stoneware mug made by me on my potters wheel.
This mug has a heart shape with the Hand of Hamsa imprinted into it.
The symbol of the hand with an eye in it has many names.......... Hand of Fatima, Hand of Miriam, Hand of Venus, Eye of Horus and Hamsa.
It is a Univirsal SIgn of Protection and Happiness
..... and has been connected to Islam, Judaism and Christianity.
I threw the body on the wheel using a lovely stoneware buff clay. Stoneware clay makes for a very strong and durable mug. I then trimmed the base and pulled a handle before attaching the decoration. The stamp I used for the fish was a gift from my daughter after her travels to Nepal.
The mug was then fired to 1000C to what is called bisque ware. The base and design were waxed and I then glazed the mug by dipping it in this wonderful white glaze. It was then refired to 1240C. That's hot!
Height 9cm
Width across the rim 10cm
I sign my pieces REJM. My parents gave me a long name and then called me by my last.
