Connecting you to the land and history from where it came, the scoria shard featured in this upcycled, handmade, sterling necklace, was discovered in the Ironbridge Gorge in Shropshire.

What is Scoria glass? Scoria is the glass-like by-product left over after iron has been separated (i.e., smelted) from its raw ore. Scoria is usually a mixture of metal oxides and silicon dioxide. During the Victorian era, several companies in Britain, France, and other European countries manufactured scoria glass into vases and also included the glass in tiffany lamps. Whilst it cannot be certain if this shard of scoria came from the construction of the actual Ironbridge, the blue/green/grey colours of the shard indicates it as iron-based. Once polished up, the swirls and colours resemble a mussel shell, evoking thoughts of the ocean at the end of the River Severn, in which this shard was found.

Making a statement of both style and sustainability, your scoria shard is set into hammered recycled sterling silver called Ecosilver, so you can feel good knowing you are wearing eco-friendly jewellery.

This sterling silver necklace was designed to last. The soldering in this necklace provide you with a strong, quality necklace that isn't going to break from a slight tug. Including the extender, the necklace measures about 21 inches long. A drop of green tourmaline finishes the extender. This necklace is stamped .925 and signed UBL.
